OT Driving Assessments in NSW

Yes. Drive & Thrive OT currently provides OT driving assessments within New South Wales only, primarily across Greater Western Sydney.

Referrals may come from medical practitioners, specialists, funding bodies, or individuals seeking a clearer understanding of their driving-related function.

An OT Driving Assessment entails the following:

OT to complete a license check prior to the assessment

1. Off-Road Assessment (Clinical):
Conducted in your home setting, this part evaluates:

  • Medical history and driving history
  • Vision, cognition, memory, attention, reaction time, knowledge of road rules and hazard perception.
  • Strength, range of motion, sensation and coordination
  • Completion of pre-work tasks (tasks required to complete for work) such as demonstrating checking the oil, tyre pressure, controls in the commertical vehicle, etc.

2. On-Road Assessment:
Conducted with a qualified driving instructor in a dual-controlled vehicle/ LR/MR/HR/MC/forklift/motorbike.

The OT observes your:

  • Driving behaviour
  • Ability to follow road rules
  • Decision-making and safety awareness
  • Use of vehicle controls

OT will communicate the results of the driving assessment to the licensing department.

Total Hours: 2h30-3h on the day of the assessment. Maximum 5 hours for a report.

Yes. OT driving assessments are commonly requested for older people experiencing “cognitive, physical or visual “changes “that may affect driving confidence or ability “to drive safely”.

This depends on individual circumstances and safety considerations. Assessment details are discussed during the booking process.

If you are requiring a driving assessment, medical fitness to drive form has to be completed by your GP/specialist as your referral and copy of the form to be shared with the OT Driver Assessor.

Yes. Drive & Thrive OT can assist in completing commercial driving assessments for the following license classes: R, LR,MR,HR,HC,MC and Fork Lift License.
